We started watching the series on Daniel while on an unplanned retreat as two families got together during the COVID 19 shutdowns. (This was during the week when gatherings of 20 or below was still being permitted). We hunkered down, stayed in doors and decided to spend these days with some kind of a structure.
John Lennox, a British mathematician and Christian Apologist is a brilliant expositor of the Bible. We wanted the kids to listen to this series as well and so spread it out over three days and enjoyed watching it together as a family.
The series on Daniel by John Lennox, started with a literary and historical context (13 monarchs are mentioned in the book and three empires), where John outlines beautifully the layout of the book.
“Character is crucial if we want to stand in society” this is a quote that stood out from the first session when John talks about the stands that Daniel took as a young main in a foreign culture. For session one, a summary from YouTube: ‘As Nebuchadnezzar ruled the Babylonian empire, Daniel and his colleagues were commanded to have new names, a new language, and new laws. Because Daniel accepted his identity in God and trusted in a power greater than his own, he stood firm despite the changes around him. While Nebuchadnezzar’s power was shaken, Daniel remained a member of the stone kingdom, with God as the unshakable foundation. We can be members of the stone kingdom too, holding firm as we look toward an uncertain future”
