How often have you set ambitious goals only to watch them slip away as the year passes by? You’re not alone. Life throws its curveballs, and the dream of achieving our goals becomes just a pipe dream. But what if I told you that there’s still time to turn it all around? With the final quarter upon us, let’s explore how to reclaim our ambitions and finish the year stronger than ever!
I don’t know about you, but I’m big on setting goals for the year. Like many of you, I start the year strong and do well with my goals, but as the year progresses, life throws curveballs, and inevitably, some goals fall by the wayside. That’s why regularly reviewing my weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals has been my lifeline.
As Tony Robbins wisely says, “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” This quote reminds me why I keep going, even when life throws curveballs.
What goals did you start with this year?
One of my goals was to run four marathons this year. I managed to complete two, but a move to a different province and life’s unexpected twists forced me to drop the remaining two. When I realized that I couldn’t finish all four runs as planned I was sad, but I also learned that adapting to life’s challenges and changes is part of the process.
I know it’s October already, and you might feel like putting things off until the new year. But hear me out—you’ve still got three whole months ahead of you! There’s so much you can do with the time left. This year isn’t over yet. I believe in you and I am rooting for you!
Why I Believe You Can Achieve Your Yearly Goals in One Quarter
Have you ever heard of Parkinson’s Law? It states that work expands to fill the time we allot to it. When we set goals in January, we have an entire year ahead of us, so we relax. Too much time encourages procrastination. As the end of the year gets in sight, the sense of urgency kicks in, and we become hyper-efficient. Let’s harness that urgency and turn it into action!
I remember those last-minute cramming sessions in college; I’d learn more in a few hours than I had all semester long! I often thought, “If I had studied like this earlier, I would have aced all subjects!” The same dynamic applies to business. Did you know that 40% of the annual revenue for businesses is earned in the final quarter? Let’s take advantage of this energy and finish strong.
Tips to Crush Your Goals:
- Review Your Goals: If you’ve written goals, this is the perfect time to review them. Have you ever set a goal only to realize halfway through that it’s not what you want anymore? What worked? What didn’t? Drop the ones that don’t serve your vision and adjust where needed. If you don’t have written goals, it’s not too late to set some for this final quarter.
- Celebrate Your Wins: Recognize what you’ve achieved so far. It’s easy to focus on what’s left to do, but don’t forget to celebrate your progress. This acknowledgment will build the momentum you need to finish strong.
- Anticipate Challenges: Take stock of potential challenges ahead. In Canada, Thanksgiving is on October 14th, and the holidays will soon follow. If your goal is to spend more time with loved ones, this season is perfect. But if you aim for fitness or health-related goals, plan your workouts in advance or prepare healthy meals for family gatherings. Anticipating these challenges helps set you up for success.
“If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves.” —Thomas Edison.
Conclusion
Q4 is here. It’s crunch time! Are you ready to finish the year strong? Take just 10 minutes right now to review your goals and decide where you’ll focus your energy. Don’t wait—what’s the one goal you’re going to tackle in this final stretch of 2024?
