Have you ever noticed that some of life’s most profound transformations begin with the smallest, almost unnoticed steps—like the humble acorn that becomes a towering oak? The seeds planted within us often go unnoticed until they are nurtured and nourished into something mighty. Yet, the journey from seed to oak doesn’t happen overnight—it requires faith in transformation, care for oneself, and a steadfast willingness to believe in what’s possible.
The Power of a Word
Recently, I attended the Maxwell Leadership Conference, where several speakers discussed the importance of choosing a word to guide them through the year. Although I had heard of this practice before and even tried it myself, I often found that my chosen word faded from my memory within a week or two. This time, however, listening to these inspiring leaders rekindled my desire to choose a word that would truly resonate with me and guide my year. The challenge was that I needed to figure out what my word should be.
Finding My Word: Acorn
I considered the words mentioned by the speakers, but none fit. So, I prayed about it and left it in God’s hands. After the conference ended, I went about my day, and as a fan of Wordle, I decided to play my daily game. That day, the word was “Acorn.” When I saw it, I was moved to tears. At that moment, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was my word. It was as if divine providence had placed it directly in front of me.
From Seed to Oak
Why am I sharing this? Because an acorn is more than just a seed. When it’s buried in the ground, watered, and given sunlight, it germinates, becomes a sapling, and grows into a mighty oak tree one day. After those three days of listening to the conference speakers, I felt like they had handed me an acorn. Now, it’s my responsibility to water, nourish, and protect it so that one day, I can grow into that mighty oak.

Nurturing Potential in Your Life
When someone pours into your life and believes in you, they are handing you a seed of potential. You have a choice: you can take that seed, plant it in your heart, and nurture it, or you can leave it untouched on the counter, where it will remain just a seed. It has no power until you plant it. But when you do, you unlock the potential for growth and transformation.
Think about your own life: What seeds of potential are you nurturing? Start by identifying one small step you can take today to cultivate your growth. Embrace your inner acorn with faith and patience, and watch as you grow into the mighty oak you were destined to become. There’s an abundance of potential for growth within you, waiting to be unlocked. This potential is your source of hope and inspiration.
The Choice is Yours
One day, I will become a mighty oak because someone believed in me and handed me the seed to cultivate and grow. What will you do with the seed that has been given to you? Remember, the choice is yours, and it’s a powerful one.
“Within every acorn lies the potential of a mighty oak. It’s not the seed alone, but the care and nurturing that transforms it into something grand.”
You need to take the seed and plant it, but you also need to do everything in your power to help it take root and grow. Water and care for it every day. Pull out the weeds that might choke your new sapling and ensure it gets the sunlight it needs to thrive. Are you ready to take on this responsibility and nurture your acorn? Your commitment to this responsibility will determine the extent of your growth and transformation.
