Dalgona Coffee

Hailing from South Korea this fluffy, creamy, whipped “quarantine coffee” was one of the biggest trends of 2020.  Social media feeds were filled with posts on dalgona coffee. Since it called for ingredients that were readily available in my pantry I decided to give it a try. I loved it and during the summer of 2020 we made it at least twice a week and had it as our 3 pm drink. It’s like a fancy coffee shop coffee, without the expense and trip out the house. It certainly gave us the fuel we needed to get us through yet another Zoom meeting. It’s very easy to make. Give it a try.

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine instant coffee and sugar. Add hot water to the mixture. Using a hand mixer or  a metal whisk, whip until light and fluffy. (2 mins for electric mixer and  about 4-6 minutes if you are using your hands to whip).
  2. Continue whisking for another 2-3 minutes until your mixture thickens, turns a light brown and holds a thick foamy texture.
  3. Add 1 cup of ice and one cup of milk to a glass. Spoon the whipped coffee on top.
  4. Using a spoon or straw, stir the coffee mixture into the milk before drinking. Enjoy!
