Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
Aristotle has said, “Man is by nature a social animal; …” So often we think we can do life alone but the truth of the matter is we are designed by God for community. You cannot achieve as much when you work in silos.
The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe. Recently I heard a preacher talk about her experience on this journey. One of the keys to this journey, she shared, is the community that walks beside you. The inspiration they bring to each other through the pace they set and the paths they choose are an important factor. This is so true in our everyday lives as well.
We are all gifted in some areas (Mental, Spiritual, Physical, Family, Financial, Personal, Career…) and in some not so much. Over the years I have enjoyed the company of folks who do spiritual things well, exercise well, manage their finances well, eat well, do life with friends well, love their family well… I want you to find a friend or friends and be the inspiration in things you do well and get inspired by doing life together. Please note that you can’t be all things to all people. Only God can do that. We hope this blog will inspire you to find things to do as a community. Reach out to that friend(s). Call and ask them to share their dreams and pray and keep pushing them forward until they achieve it.
The benefits of setting goals and reviewing them in community definitely outweighs the benefits of doing it alone. Holding each other accountable and stopping to pick up the one who has fallen along the way keeps us walking together toward the goals we have set.
“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” Dale Carnegie
